Meet Our 2024-2025 Team

Olivia Ramraj

President

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be this year's President. I am a second year PhD student studying the vascular and autonomic system in type 2 diabetes. When not in the lab, I enjoy watching movies and reading. I also love listening to music and you'll hardly ever see me without my headphones. I am looking forward to connecting and having fun with our graduate students this year!

Jaryeon Lee

Vice-President

Hey everyone! My name is Jaryeon and I’m excited to be the Vice President of this year's KAHS GSA team. I am a first year MSc student in Dr. Scimè's lab and my research revolves around  exploring different factors that affect muscle regeneration through manipulating muscle stem cell behaviour. Outside of the lab life, I like reading and playing golf. I look forward to meeting all of you in future social events!  ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶

Parmin Rahimpoor-Marnani

Secretary

Hello! My name is Parmin, and I am excited to serve as this year's secretary for KAHS GSA. I am currently a MSc student investigating sensorimotor adaptation and implicit learning under the supervision of Dr. Denise Henriques. In my free time, you can find me spending time with friends and family, going for a run or hike, reading, or learning new languages (currently working on my French and Hindi). Looking forward to a great year!

Maureen Krelove

Social Media Coordinator & Website Programmer

Hey! I’m Maureen, a first year MSc student with Dr. Mochizuki, my research focusses on how our brains change with age in terms of attention and fall risk. When I am not in the lab (rare), I love spending time with my animals, reading, and thinking about all the work I am not doing. (P.S. I made this website… let me know if have comments/questions!)

Palina Burneiko

EDID Representative

Hi friends! My name is Palina and I am a first year MSc student in Dr. Heather Edgell’s lab, where my research focuses on cardiovascular function and physiological sex differences. When I am not in the lab you can find me dancing and coaching at the dance studio or annoying my dog with extra cuddles :)

Aliza Maqsood

MSc Representative

Hi everyone, I'm Aliza! I'm a first year master's student in Kinesiology. My supervisor is Dr. Brad Meisner, and my research focuses on aging. I am the MSc Representative for GSA this year. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and help being a voice for the Master's of Science students!

Mark Danesh

Conference Co-Chair

My name is Mark Danesh, I am delighted to be one of this year's conference co-chair. I am a second year PhD student under the supervision of Dr Tara Haas and Dr Anthony Scimè, where we study the effect of the microenvironment on stem cell behaviour.

Mankirat Gujral

Conference Co-Chair

I am a second year Master’s student under the supervision of Dr. Heather Edgell in the Women’s Cardiovascular Health Lab. My thesis research examines the impact of sex hormones, including progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone, on microvascular and autonomic function. In my role as a Conference Co-Chair, I aim to enhance the graduate student experience by organizing a dynamic and engaging Broaden the Horizon Annual Conference. This annual event will provide students with a platform to present their research, learn about the impactful work of their peers, and benefit from a keynote speaker who will offer valuable insights and guidance for the future careers of graduate students!

Namrata Talwar

Member at Large

My name is Namrata Talwar and I'm a first year MSc student in Dr Tara Haas's lab – we study endothelial cells and vascular biology (stay tuned for when I update this once I get a finalized project area).  The little time I have outside of being a certified lab rat is devoted to catering to the whims of my incredibly spoiled Yorkie trio, attempting to finish my many literary WIPs, and convincing everyone I meet to play Pokemon Go.

Natan Levi

Natan (he/they) is a 2nd year PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Lyndsay Hayhurst and Dr. Parissa Safai. Natan came to Canada as a refugee from Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia. In 2013, Natan completed their undergraduate degree from Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto with a specialization in management. Prior to starting their studies at York University, they spent 5 years working with Tennis Canada, Ontario Tennis Association and Jane/Finch Community Tennis Association where they delivered and evaluated grassroots sport for development programming. In 2023, they completed their MSc under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Fraser-Thomas. Their work explored the participant experiences of individuals enrolled in a Sport for Development and Livelihood program. Natans’ research interests include anti-colonialism, sport for development and livelihoods.
